A traditional South African favorite, and super easy to make.

Melkkos is great as a quick breakfast or a cozy winter night dinner since it’s basically milk soup!

Servings: 2-3
Time: 10 Minutes
Difficulty: Very Easy

  • 1 litre Milk
  • 1 cup Cake flour
  • 1 cup Margarine

  1. Heat the milk to boiling point in the microwave for about 4 minutes (might take a bit longer if you are making more than 1 litre).
  2. Mix the flour and margarine together in a bowl, using your fingers, until it forms a smooth crumby mixture. Set aside.
  3. Once the milk is boiling add the crumb mixture while stirring it lightly with a whisk.
  4. Put the batter back in the microwave for 6-8 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes.
  5. When it’s thickened nicely your Melkkos is fully cooked and you can dish it up in a soup bowl (while it’s still hot). Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top and enjoy!
